HGTV My House Is Your House

HGTV’s My House is Your House shows viewers how to design your home to become a successful short term rental property. By being creative and focusing on clean and fresh design, it creates a space that makes your home feel like a hotel to guests.

Hosts Ryan and Claire Danz tackle Treci and Amir Smith’s San Diego garage, taking on the challenge of converting it into an eye catching space with the goal of wide design appeal and increased rental revenue. To accomplish this, the husband and wife team brought in San Diego based designer and influencer, Rachel Moriarty.

Rachel focused on making the bathroom look like a custom luxury getaway. To do this she worked with Unique Design Solutions Floral Mosaic pattern. This mosaic comes in eight set house blends that utilize both premium stone and floor-rated glass mosaic chips, but this project called for something a little bit different. Rachel took advantage of one of the aspects that makes Unique Design Solutions so unique – that as an American manufacturer creating made-to-order designs, she could customize the mosaic to be exactly what the project called for. The versatility of working with an elegantly assembled, floor-rated mosaic tile allowed for a unified design approach as well, as the customized Floral Mosaic fills the space as both the back feature wall of the shower and the entire bathroom floor.

“When HGTV approached me to work on their new series on short term rentals,” said Rachel Moriarty, “there was no doubt in my mind that I wanted to incorporate Unique Design Solutions Floral Mosaic tile into the bathroom. I wanted this space to have a WOW-factor and still feel serene and timeless. Their handmade custom mosaic, comprised of elliptical and penny round shaped tiles, delivered that in spades. The end result was stunning!!”

To create a look that was very detailed and visually interesting, but still elegant and not too busy for the bathroom, customizing the Floral into an all white Carrara marble was the perfect choice. This design started out with the concept of just putting the customized Floral Mosaic on the shower surround, but after realizing how much of a showstopper the mosaic was she altered the design of the bathroom and ran it all the way from the bathroom floor, into the shower pan and seamlessly up the shower wall.
